Beyonders: A World Without Heroes, is the first installment of the Beyonders trilogy. It features Jason as the main protagonist and Rachel as a secondary protagonist. They cross over to Lyrian through portals which exists in the real world.
The main antagonist is the tyrant ruler of Lyrian, Maldor. Jason and Rachel must travel around Lyrian to collect syllables of a word that could be used to destroy Maldor but will forget the word after it has been spoken or written. Throughout the story Jason and Rachel are pursued by the ruler's men and have to elude them in order to finish their quest.
Although the book lacks more action considering it is a fantasy book it is very well written and uses teenage kids which allows the targeted audience to relate. I would recommend this book for kids aged 13 - 17.
